Transformative Healing
Dr. Gregory is SUNY Distinguished Service Professor at Upstate Medical University and a graduate of Harvard’s psychiatry residency training program at Beth Israel Hospital. He developed dynamic deconstructive psychotherapy (DDP) in the early 2000s since he perceived that existing psychotherapy modalities were missing some constructs and techniques that his training and experience told him were important for healing. In 2017, Dr. Gregory founded the Psychiatry High Risk Program (PHRP), an innovative recovery-based treatment model established in 2017 for suicidal youth and adults that uses DDP as its core treatment. The PHRP has been designated by the federal Suicide Prevention Resource Center as “a best practice in suicide prevention”. The PHRP won the 2023 American Psychiatric Association’s prestigious Silver Award in Psychiatric Services for innovative and effective mental health care. His upcoming book at Guilford Press co-authored by Dr. Rebecca Shields is entitled, Therapeutic Dilemmas with Suicidal Clients: A Recovery-Based Clinician’s Guide.
